Where We Kiteboard

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s a whole lot of fun outdoors! Think kiteboarding or kitesurfing as surfing powered by a kite that attaches to your body. Kiteboarders use wind power to pull them across the water while they ride.
Yes, with professional instruction and training. Kiteboarding is an extreme sport, but safety systems and education are key. With Pure Kiteboarding, you’ll learn everything you need to know about safety and understanding weather conditions.

Snowkiting is how you can kiteboard in the winter – on the snow or ice instead of water. Snowkiters use a normal pair of downhill skis or a snowboard and use the kite to direct their ride.

We provide the kite gear you need for kitesurfing on the water: kite, harness, life jacket, board and helmet.

For water kiteboarding lessons, bring water shoes with thick soles to protect your feet from the river bottom. To protect from the chill, we recommend a wetsuit. In spring or fall, we also recommend gloves, a hood, jacket, a thicker wetsuit or even a drysuit to keep you warm. Sunglasses with a strap with protect your eyes from the glare, and waterproof sunscreen will protect your skin.

For snowkiting, bring a helmet and a board or skis. We also recommend wearing a full snowsuit and dressing to stay warm and dry for a couple of hours outside. Goggles and sunblock are recommended to protect your eyes and skin from snow glare.

We tailor lessons to everyone’s individual pace. Beginners will start on the land, and most students need about 6-12 hours of lessons to get up and riding on the board.

Kiteboarding requires technique and skill, not brute physical force. Kiteboarding can be learned by people of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels.

Most of our lessons are done in shallow water, but to keep you safe, we require you to know how to swim to kiteboard.

Anyone who is pregnant, has back issues, chronic pain, or any conditions that prevent physical activity.

Above 10 knots is a good rule of thumb. If conditions are not good for kiteboarding, there are other activities that you can enjoy. Reach out to find out if the conditions are good for riding.
